Off the script, the Camino creeps up

So I realized that it was time to leave Amsterdam.  Also, that I had a few extra days at this point, and decided the best thing to do would be to go off the script, and visit some other Dutch cities.

Yesterday morning, I found my way into Utrecht.  All I'm going to say is that shit got hectic.  I've been staying in the the worst hostel I've ever visited.  My bunk mate got his stuff stolen while we were sleeping last night.  But, things turned around, in really amazing ways.  As the upshot, my Camino officially started yesterday - I literally stumbled into this church, where this refined older couple sat me down, and had me tell them all about my trip.  They then pulled some strings, gave me a pilgrims passport, and gave it its first stamp.  So my Camino officially started.  It's been a turbulent but impressive start.  I really feel like everything is showing up when I need it.

Utrecht itself is a nice old city, but otherwise not particularly impressive.  It's been a good stop though, despite the gritty accommodations.

Hard to see, but there was a sculptor working next to a canal.  I totally wish I were him.

Also, I probably heard the quote of the trip here.  In an English accent: 'I like to run with a loose lower lip'.  WTF?

And as a teaser (thousands of years old):
